This can be seen perfectly in the interior work of a cello by Claude Augustin Chappuy from 1778: while the upper corner blocks (photo left) were only worked on very roughly in an obvious hurry, the lower corner blocks (photo right) were given much more care and time. The difference: only the lower corner blocks can be seen through the F-holes...Reading less
